What's Going On with
Cheatham Co's Battle with TVA?
The program featured a panel discussion with Preserve Cheatham County (PCP) activists JoAnn McIntosh, Tracy O’Neill and Angie Mummaw. Preserve Cheatham County (PCC) is a non-profit group of local residents fighting a proposed methane gas plant and pipeline in the beautiful and rural community of Ashland City. Until recently, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) planned to build a methane gas plant on 286 acres of land located in northern Ashland City on Lockertsville Road. Kinder Morgan would own the accompanying 12-mile pipeline project and is part of TVA’s plan to replace a coal-burning unit at the Cumberland City plant with gas. The electricity generated would serve Nashville and Davidson County. Why is PCP, and the Sierra Club, opposed to the gas project? Do swirling developments, including the involvement of a high-profile country music artist, mean TVA is scrapping its gas plant and pipeline plans for good? How may the Trump administration’s involvement in the TVA board affect the utility’s intentions for gas generation in Middle Tennessee counties?
