LOCAL COASTAL BEND CONCERNS

  • Building of petrochemical plants and the permitting process which allows this to continue apace.
  • All of the activities and byproducts resulting from, and which lead to, the current rapid development of petrochemical plants in the Coastal Bend. This includes fracking, pipelining, the desalination plants being planned to support the petrochemical plants, the release of plastics into the coastal waters, the release of harmful chemicals into the air and water, and last, but not least, the destruction of the unique, natural beauty of the Texas Gulf Coast in Corpus Christi and surrounding areas.
  • Environmental Justice - this involves the harmful effects that the refineries and petrochemical plants located in the large area known as Refinery Row have on residents of nearby neighborhoods.
