Bay Area Sierra Club Meeting: Dr. Sharir Masri, author of Beyond Debate: 50 Misconceptions on Climate Change

Bay Area meetings are on 3rd Wednesday of the month, and start at 6:30pm for social hour; speaker and discussion from 7-8:30 pm.

October Meeting Program:

The Bay Area Sierra Club is so pleased to present Dr. Sharir Masri, our guest speaker at our October seventeenth meeting. He is the author of Beyond Debate: Answers to 50 Misconceptions on Climate Change. “He simplifies the science and resolves the confusion. . . . Now is . . . . a time for conversation and collective action to move towards a climate solution. Action begins with understanding, which Beyond Debate so eloquently offers.”

Come to our meeting with your questions. Even if you recognize the urgency, Dr. Masri will clarify any aspects that are unclear to you. For example:

From Linda King: I wondered why the emphasis was on CO2 reduction rather than on more potent greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. The answer was so obvious. I knew that the Milankovitch cycles of precession, axial tilt, and eccentricity had nothing to do with our global warming, but Dr. Masri clarified the reasons.

Dr. Masri is an air pollution scientist at the University of California at Irvine. His master’s and doctorate in environment health are from Harvard’s School of Public Health.

We thank Peter Bowman for getting us such a knowledgeable and caring speaker. Peter saw an article in the Huffington Post about Dr. Masri and educator Athina Simalaris taking a year off from their jobs for a road trip throughout our country to speak out about protecting our environment. With diligence, Peter managed to snag Dr. Masri for our October meeting.

We will meet on Wednesday October 17 at 6:30 for the social and 7 p.m. for the program at the Bay Area Community Center (blue roof) in Clear Lake Park at 5002 NASA Parkway, 77586. Driving east, first stop light past Space Center Blvd., turn left away from lake into park. We have met at this location for the past eight years. We have not moved.
