National Trails Day on June 1

Put on your hiking boots and hit the trails on National Trails Day, June 1, 2019. The Houston area has many interesting trails, from meandering short walks to long hikes.

The Houston Sierra Club will hike some of the trails at Lake Houston Wilderness Park to mark National Trails Day. This Park is one of the largest in the region with 4,786 acres of wooded parkland and an extensive trail system. It is located approximately 35 miles north of downtown Houston off of Highway 69 near the town of New Caney.  For further details or to sign up, check the Houston Sierra Meetup web site for June 1. On our hikes we typically take along a bag or two to remove any litter we encounter, leaving the trail in better shape for the next users.

The American Hiking Society designated National Trails Day to connect more people to trails on this one day in June. Join with other hiking enthusiasts and strike out on your adventure. Thousands of events happen with local organizations. Connect with one in your area, or volunteer to host an event.
