Want to Assist with Sierra Club Outings?

Over the years the Houston Sierra Club has offered a variety of regional outings, including day hikes, canoe/kayak outings, bike tours and service outings; as well as camping trips to a variety of state and national parks in Texas and across the country. We have also organized hostel trips to various cities, including NYC, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, etc.
Outings
We are always looking to maintain and expand our pool of outings leaders.  Our leader training (OLT 101) provides participants with the background requirements for leading a Sierra Club outing in the field.  This class is a qualification to become an asst. leader or leader on our day outings or camping trips.
We will be scheduling a new leader training class soon (OLT 101) for those interested.  Besides gaining rewarding personal experience, our leaders make an important contribution by creating opportunities for others to experience and enjoy the natural world. Also a big advantage of being an outings leader is that one gets to choose the destination and activity!

Below are the basic qualifications for becoming a certified outings leader with Sierra Club:
1. Be at least 18 years of age
2. Be a dues paying member of Sierra Club (so that liability insurance will apply)
3. Take the Outings Leader Training class (OLT101)
4. Have basic first aid certification (Red Cross or equivalent)
5. Lead an initial outing with a mentor leader

If you have an interest in becoming an outings leader, or have further questions, contact Frank Blake at frankblake@juno.com .  Each class is approximately 2 hours long; there is no cost, and dates will be coordinated with participants.
