The program for the September 18 meeting is Life in Outdoor Space with speaker Dr. Matthew Strausser.

NASA’s Johnson Space Center is not just the home of America’s astronauts and mission control.  It is also home to hundreds of species of wild animals.  The NASA property contains hundreds of acres of rare coastal prairie and dense forested woodland habitat replete with wildlife.  The juxtaposition of ancient ecosystems and modern technology create unique challenges and opportunities for those tasked with managing it.  How did this once unremarkable plot of land become a haven for native wildlife and a cornerstone of space exploration?  We also talk about some of the amazing species that have persisted in Houston’s unique ecosystem.

Bring your questions about the wildlife on NASA and in the Houston area.
