Houston METRO and the COVID-19 Emergency

During the month of March, Houston METRO has been implementing a number of safety measures and service modifications. Providing public transit services during a virus pandemic, particularly one that can be easily spread and has triggered widespread business and office closures, is a challenge. But transit is a vital public service, and for many it is their primary access to food stores, employment, health providers, etc.

For the latest safety precautions and up-to-date service modifications it is best to consult the METRO web page on Coronavirus:

New Safety precautions:
1. Local buses now require rear door boarding, and front door boarding is reserved for those with mobility limitations. METRO has temporarily suspended fare collection.
2. Seating on buses and trains have been marked to encourage and enforce social distancing among passengers (see web link above for image of bus seating).
3. Some transparent protective barriers have been placed to help protect both bus drivers and passengers.
4. Buses won't take passengers beyond 50% of bus capacity.
5. Buses and trains now get enhanced cleaning and disinfectant treatments.

Service changes:
1. Most Park & Ride routes have been temporarily suspended, except for some serving the Texas Medical Center.
2. All local bus routes will be running at reduced frequency.
3. Rail lines are also running on adjusted schedules; check the website for current information.

For local buses, one can get alerted to service changes and reductions by subscribing to receive service alerts for the route(s) of your choice. METRO will send real-time, personalized route information straight to your phone or email for free. It takes just seconds to subscribe.

Again, for the most current schedule and route information, be sure to check the
METRO web site:
