On August 9, 2025, the Houston Sierra Club, all 12 of us, enjoyed a visit to the Lone Star Fight Museum (LSFM) at Ellington Airport in southeast Houston. We beat the heat and toured Houston’s flight history.
The flight museum covers topics about when the Wright Brothers first flew in North Carolina to more current topics like the Space Shuttle. It was great seeing many airplanes and spacecraft up close. I particularly was impressed by the B-25 Mitchell bomber that was parked in one hanger. We watched as a restored TBF Avenger taxied out to a landing strip to take off.
In addition, there are several flight simulators that you can get to know. Boy are they impressive and can give you an out-of-this world feeling about how it is to fly.
Afterwards we went to a Vietnamese restaurant and had a wonderful lunch with great conversations and delicious food. Even when its too hot to go out, the Sierra Club has fun!
