FORMAL OUTINGS

 

About every second Saturday, the Glen Canyon Group has a formal outing (listed below), a hike or occasionally a campout. Anyone, Sierra Club member or not, is welcome. Hikes frequently involve walking on steeply sloping slickrock and mild scrambling. Outings are occasionally on other days of the week. Participants on formal outings must sign a liability waiver. The Sierra Club DOES NOT have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing, or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants and participants assume the risks associated with this travel.

 

INFORMAL OUTINGS

 

On Saturdays without a formal outing and Tuesdays group members and others go on an informal outing. The meeting place is the same as for formal outings, the parking lot of the former Red Rock Elementary School, opposite the Rotary Park on Millcreek Drive. (You can get a map and directions by looking at a formal outing with the link above.) The cold weather meeting time is 9 AM, hot weather 8 AM. Check with Tom Messenger 435-259-1756 if you're a first timer. Folks at the meeting place put forth various destinations. Then form groups for however many destinations were decided on and carpool. Hikes are typically 5-7 miles and likely involve steeply sloping slickrock and mild scrambling. When more ambitious hikes are proposed, there is often a shorter, easier hike too.
