Energy

Kennedy SC Solar Farm

We need to divest from fossil fuels and nuclear power.

Fracking and offshore drilling are crimes against our state’s natural beauty and its citizens and will only cause greater harm to our already distressed eco-systems.

Nuclear energy plants are also water intensive and subject to natural and man-manmade disasters which can cause irrevocable damage. Only one word is needed to convey the gravity of this: Fukushima.

We need to create a clean energy revolution in Florida, which boasts the #3 solar capacity in the country. In addition to solar energy, wind and hydro energy and biofuels are rapidly cheapening and aggressively spreading sources of energy. Southwest Florida has limitless potential for the clean energy future that our state must move toward. We only require the proper leadership from our state officials to get it done. We should be the LEADER in solar energy globally and it’s shameful that we’re not. If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention!

Two initiatives in Florida are providing opportunities for citizens and business leaders to engage in energy policy and the Sierra Club Calusa Group is proud to be a supporter of both.

Floridians for Solar Choice is a grassroots citizens’ effort to allow more homes and businesses to generate electricity by harnessing the power of the sun. Floridians for Solar Choice is promoting a Florida constitutional amendment ballot initiative that would give Florida’s families and businesses the right to choose solar power. What’s Your Plan, Gov? is a campaign dedicated to making sure Florida’s governor has a plan to leave our children and grandchildren a planet that is not polluted or unsafe; invest in clean solar power and create jobs for Floridians; hold accountable the electric monopolies that currently have no limits on their carbon pollution from burning coal, and protect public health from harmful pollution. We are calling on Floridians to ask Florida’s Governor…“What’s your plan, Gov?“ You can learn more about this campaign here. Contact Us for more info.
