SIERRA CLUB GEORGIA CHAPTER PROUD TO PARTNER WITH SOLARIZE DECATUR-DEKALB
Campaign to bring more solar to the region kicks off with webinar on Thursday, April 30

DECATUR — Solarize Decatur-DeKalb, a campaign that brings area residents together to save money on new solar panels and other clean energy technologies by buying in bulk, is returning in 2020. The campaign kicks off this week with a free webinar at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, where residents can learn more about the program.

The first Solarize Decatur-DeKalb program in 2017 saw 123 installations add 860 kilowatts of new solar capacity to the region, which reduced CO2 emissions by more than 1.6 million pounds annually. In total, ten Solarize programs across Georgia have installed 550 rooftop solar arrays to homes and businesses in the state, adding more than 3.8 megawatts of new clean electricity capacity.

The Sierra Club Georgia Chapter is proud to partner with the Decatur Environmental Sustainability Board, Environment Georgia, Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, Solar Crowdsource, and other local volunteers to bring this program back to Decatur and DeKalb.

“We’re excited to see Solarize return to DeKalb County and bring more rooftop solar online. We currently have a team working to move Decatur to a 100 percent clean, renewable energy future and this effort will play a part in making that a reality,” said Georgia Chapter Director Jessica Morehead.

Thursday’s virtual campaign launch event is open to the public, but registration is required to get a link to the webinar. Go to solarizedecatur-dekalb.com to register and learn more.
