Trip Leaders

Requirements For Leaders

STS outing leaders are volunteers, not professional guides or instructors. In addition to organizing trip logistics, outings leaders share their enthusiasm and knowledge of cross-country skiing with trip participants. STS members interested in becoming leaders should contact the STS Outings Committee Chair (see the STS Details page.)

For Leadership Requirements and Leadership Training Requirements, see the STS Standing Rules on Outings and Leadership on the STS Details Page.

Incentives For Leaders

The STS encourages members to lead trips for the Section. To reward trip leadership, the STS offers the following incentives:

  1. Section dues will be waived for a trip leader provided the leader leads one trip per year for the Section. The trip must be listed in Track as an official STS trip.
  2. The course cost for First Aid, OLT 101, OLT 201, avalanche, or comparable training will be reimbursed to outings leaders who have lead a minimum of three outings over the past three years. Proof of successful completion of the training is required for reimbursement. Reimbursement is available only for the class fee (not travel, lodging, or food expenses) and is a limited amount for First Aid classes. Reimbursement for avalanche training must be pre-approved by the Outings Committee.
