Friday, October 7, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.-Hike the Driftless area
Join Chris Underwood, assistant professor of geography at UW-Platteville, on a guided tour of the historical ecology of the Driftless Area. Chris is a biogeographer and paleoecologist who uses tree rings, soils and sediments to reconstruct the environmental history of the Late Pleistocene and Holocene epochs (from around 20,000 years before present until today). The tour will take you on a two-hour interpretive hike through prairie and forest in Governor Dodge State Park as Chris discusses vegetation and wildfire histories, as well as human-altered landscapes in the Driftless. The approximately three-mile hike will likely encounter steps, moderate grades and rocky surfaces.
