An emergency meeting has been scheduled for Thursday October 23 at 7:30 pm by the Town Board at the Lansing Town Hall to determine a deadline for accepting public comments regarding the proposed moratorium law limiting development and "approving litigation counsel," according to 607 News Now. The proposed one-year moratorium on developments over 6,000 (or alternatively 10,000) square feet appears to primarily be targeting a planned AI data center on the shore of Cayuga Lake. The board is looking to rewrite the town's zoning during the moratorium.
A Town board meeting on October 15 aired views of the board members and of dozens of members of the public. Many who spoke were strongly in support of the moratorium, on the grounds of environmental degradation, increased electrical rates, and noise as an expected result of the AI data center. Many also spoke against the adoption of the moratorium, on the grounds of lost jobs and negative effects on developments other than the AI data center.
The meeting will be streamed live on the town's YouTube channel, and the meeting will be open to the public.
