Zero Emission Vehicles for Buffalo

Over time, all vehicles wear out and need replacement, so why not convert to electric to save the City of Buffalo money, reduce air pollution and reduce climate warming gases?

The Sierra Club Niagara Group's Transportation Committee has been working to do this. They introduced an ordinance to the Buffalo Common Council’s Community Development Committee in December of 2024 which would commit the City of Buffalo to gradually converting their vehicles to electric. The Council Members were generally supportive. In fact, the City of Buffalo has already purchased 2 fully electric trucks and 2 EV cars (in February 2025) for the Parking Department, but they appear reluctant to commit to replacing all polluting vehicles with Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs). Our Transportation Committee is still working to get the Buffalo Common Council and the Mayor of Buffalo to take this ordinance seriously and follow the lead of New York City by committing to gradually replacing older vehicles with ZEVs.

If you want to be part of this advocacy for ZEVs, please contact us at Niagara Sierra and we will put you in touch with our Transportation Committee Chair.
