February 2025

Welcome to the First Edition of the Newly Revised E-Timberlines

By Jane Ard-Smith, Chair and Jim Lockhart, Conservation Chair

Here's where we'll discuss local issues and how you can get involved (see Jim's note about Fisher's Canyon). We'll also let you know of opportunities to meet fellow Sierra Club members and supporters (check out our upcoming member meeting at Goat Patch on February 25), as well as how to keep up on issues (see Judy's note about wolves).

Many of us are concerned about the new administration and what it means for our climate and environment. And we want to know what we can do to help. There will be plenty of opportunities to take action at the federal and state levels – the National Sierra Club and the Colorado Chapter will keep you informed about those efforts. But this communication will focus on what happening in the Pikes Peak region and how you can protect and enjoy our own little piece of the planet. We hope you'll join us – now more than ever it is time to think globally and act locally.

Conservation Committee Updates

Our Conservation Committee is hard at work following the environmental and conservation issues that affect us all here in the pikes peak region. We have updates on Fisher Canyon; Wilderness and Wildlands; Fountain Creek; Parks, Open Space and Development. If interested in joining our committee, contact the Pikes Peak Group. Member Event

Where do we go from here? Join the Pikes Peak Group for a member meeting on Tuesday, February 25, 5:30 PM at Goat Patch Brewery. Meet fellow Sierra Club members, learn about some important local issues, and share your input on how we can make an impact locally. Not a member? Not a problem – you don't have to be a member to attend. But we do encourage you to join - check out membership here. Click here to register.

Wolf Report

By Judy Shulman

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has completed the second season of wolf releases in Colorado out of a planned 3 to 5 release seasons. 15 wolves from British Columbia and 5 wolves from the Copper Creek pack (a relocation of wolves released last year) were released in Eagle and Pitkin counties.
