Member and Supporter Meeting and Social Gathering

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Pikes Peak Group held a member and supporter meeting and social gathering at South Park Brewery. A core group of volunteers came out to find out more about the club and talk about the issues that are important to them. Conversations revolved around the group's top priorities, including Wilderness and Wildlands, Wildlife preservation, Open Space protection, and keeping Colorado Springs nuclear free. We talked about plans for this summer's hiking/outings and clean ups. Plans were made to expand digital outreach and how to engage our supporters in environmental issues right here in the Springs. It was a fun and interesting time. Keep an eye out for our next meeting happening this summer!

Monument Creek Clean Up Part of Great American Cleanup Day

On May 3, 2025, Sierra Club Pikes Peak Group members took to the Monument Creek Trail to pick up trash along our adopted section of the trail. The group holds bi-yearly clean ups on our section of the trail. Three dedicated volunteers came out to pick up trash along this beautiful section of Monument Creek. May 3rd was designated as the Great American Cleanup Day and other events were held throughout the city, including the Fountain Creek Watershed District sponsored cleanup. This citywide effort made a huge impact on keeping our trails and public spaces free of trash and a place for all to enjoy. Please join us on May 17th for our next cleanup.

Voter Information: Karmen Line Annexation Debate

A vote on whether or not to approve the Karmen Line Annexation will be happening on June 17, 2025 in Colorado Springs. The annexation would be in the Southeast part of the city near Schriever Space Force Base.

The annexation is a "flagpole" annexation, whereby the City Council, in a consecutive series of votes, annexed five small parcels of land along Bradley Road in order to reach and annex a 1900-acre parcel of land which a developer proposes to build a 6,500-single family home neighborhood and commercial space over the next two decades. The developer is seeking to bring the land within city limits in order to be eligible for city services such as water, road maintenance, and fire and police protection. Following the annexation decision, voters within the city opposed to the annexation presented petitions with enough signatures to require a special election to allow citizens to vote on whether to allow the annexation. Some of the concerns around the annexation include equity issues and wildlife.
