Sierra Club Endorses Environmental Champions Mary Cheh, Brianne Nadeau & Charles Allen

DC chapter of nation’s largest environmental organization gears up to support green allies on DC Council

WASHINGTON, DC – The DC Chapter of the Sierra Club is pleased to endorse three incumbents in this year’s DC Council races: Brianne Nadeau (D-Ward 1), Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) and Charles Allen (D-Ward 6).

“We are thrilled to endorse three of the strongest environmentalists on the DC Council,” said DC Chapter Chair Mark Rodeffer. “Mary Cheh has built an impressive record fighting for environmental conservation, waste diversion, and public health. Brianne Nadeau and Charles Allen, in their first terms on the DC council, each has emerged as a champion for a healthy environment and combating climate change. We look forward to mobilizing our members to support their campaigns and continuing to work with their offices and staff over the next four years to make DC an even cleaner and greener place to live, work and play.”

Councilmember Cheh, who chairs the Transportation and Environment Committee, said: “Environmental and quality of life issues have always been at the forefront of my work on the Council, and it is a singular honor to be recognized by a great partner and the premier environmental group in our area.”

Councilmember Nadeau said: “I’ve spent my life committed to protecting our natural resources, and as an elected leader I’ve pushed for better policy and smarter investments for a cleaner environment. It’s an honor to receive the endorsement of an organization that has so strongly shaped environmental policy in the District.“

Councilmember Allen said: “I'm honored to earn the support of the Sierra Club. In my first term on the Council, I've been proud to partner with the Sierra Club to lead on environmental, resiliency, and sustainability efforts for the District of Columbia and the Anacostia River. Together, I know we'll be able to lay out an aggressive vision for the next four years.”

The Sierra Club is evaluating candidates in other DC races this year and hopes to make additional endorsements soon.

The District of Columbia will hold a primary election on June 19, 2018 and a general election on November 6, 2018.
