The Sierra Club District of Columbia Chapter holds elections in the fourth quarter of every year for two-year terms on the Executive Committee per its bylaws. The Executive Committee (ExCom) has approved the following schedule for the 2026 election:
2026 Chapter Election Timeline
- Deadline for Nominating Committee to report nominees to ExCom: October 14
- Deadline for petition candidates to submit petitions: October 27
- Week of elections materials mailing: November 17
- Closing of election: December 7
- Deadline for Election Committee to report results: December 12
Our Nominations committee is excited to announce that we have 5 committed candidates who will be running for 4 open seats this year. Our bylaws also allow for petition candidates to run in the election - candidates need to submit the names of 50 dues-paying members who support their candidacy. Please email that to david.whitehead@sierraclub.org. Only members of the Sierra Club District of Columbia Chapter are eligible to seek election to the ExCom and vote in the election.
If you are not a member, please join. Members must be registered and reflected in the official member list as of November 10, 2026 in order to be eligible to vote.
The election will be conducted by electronic ballot, with notices of elections and ballots sent by email.
Members may want to take a moment to ensure their email addresses and preferences are up to date.
