Sierra Club Endorses Robert White for Mayor

The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Robert White for mayor of the District of Columbia.

“Robert White has pledged to work closely with the environmental community to meet DC’s climate commitment of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions,” said Mark Rodeffer, Sierra Club DC Chapter Political Committee Chair. “We must transition off fossil fuels and combustion-based energy with a fair and just transition that ensures thousands of good-paying green jobs for DC residents will support families, reduce energy costs, improve air quality, end greenhouse gas emissions, and advance justice in DC. Robert White has a plan to accomplish all these objectives. The Sierra Club looks forward to helping Robert White get elected mayor.”

Robert White said: “I am honored by the Sierra Club’s endorsement. While climate change poses an incredible threat to our city, we have the opportunity to tackle this challenge while creating new jobs and building our workforce. As mayor, I will create a green jobs guarantee that will strengthen our workforce while fighting our climate emergency. I am deeply grateful to the Sierra Club for their support and look forward to working with them to implement this plan.”

Matt Gravatt, Sierra Club DC Chapter chair, said: “The Sierra Club has endorsed Robert White in each of his previous campaigns for DC Council and we are proud to endorse him for mayor. Robert White has a vision for action on climate, jobs, and justice and the leadership needed to deliver and build a more sustainable and equitable DC. The Sierra Club will mobilize our thousands of members and supporters across the District to donate, knock on doors, and most importantly, vote for Robert White for mayor.”

The Sierra Club is encouraging its members to contribute to Robert White’s campaign. Because he’s a Fair Elections candidate, contributions from DC residents will be matched five-to one. So a $10 contribution turns into $60, $50 results in $300 and $200 becomes $1,200. As a Fair Elections candidate, Robert White cannot accept donations over $200.

The Sierra Club is evaluating candidates in other 2022 races in DC and hopes to make additional endorsements soon.

DC’s primary election is Tuesday, June 21, 2022 and the general election is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
