Sierra Club Endorses Zachary Parker for DC Council in Ward 5

The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Zachary Parker for the Ward 5 DC Council seat.

“Zachary Parker is committed to the Sierra Club’s key priorities of transitioning buildings and transportation off fossil fuels and onto electricity from renewable sources,” said Mark Rodeffer, chair of the Sierra Club DC Chapter Political Committee. “We look forward to working with Zachary on these issues, as well as on expanding sustainable transportation, reducing food and plastic waste in DC, making our rivers fishable and swimmable, and ensuring that all lead pipes in DC are replaced.”

Zachary Parker said: “I’m honored and proud to have the endorsement of Sierra Club, a lion in the environmental movement and champions of recent DC clean energy legislation. If we’re going to build healthy communities, we need clean air, water, food, and energy systems. I’m humbled to have Sierra Club on #TeamZachary.”

The Sierra Club plans to mobilize our members and supporters across the District to donate, knock on doors, and in Ward 5, to vote for Zachary Parker. We look forward to working closely with him when he’s in office.

The Sierra Club is encouraging its members to contribute to Zachary Parker’s campaign. Because he’s a Fair Elections candidate, contributions from DC residents will be matched five-to one. So a $10 contribution turns into $60, $25 becomes $150 and $50 results in $300. As a Fair Elections candidate, Zachary cannot accept donations above $50.

The Sierra Club is evaluating candidates in other 2022 races in DC and hopes to make additional endorsements soon.

DC’s primary election is Tuesday, June 21, 2022 and the general election is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
