JOIN THE BROWARD GREEN SCHOOLS CAMPAIGN!
Our Broward Sierra Group-Junior Team is making progress with its ongoing Green School Campaign. This is an endeavor to transition our public schools into 100% clean energy and attempt to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Broward County Public Schools, the sixth largest district in the entire nation, could make a major impact by switching to clean energy: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing indoor air quality for students, and significantly cutting energy expenses across the district.
The high schoolers are in collaboration with Climate Reality Broward and Palm Beach, and have continued advocating for sustainability and 100% clean energy in the Broward County Public Schools. Last October, the City of Coconut Creek supported the Junior Team’s efforts with a proclamation, as did the City of Plantation in November.
Last December, the passage of a resolution by the Broward County School Board was enacted, culminating the efforts of the previous months. Read the full resolution here
With a goal of executing the transition into clean energy smoothly, the team is continuing to work closely with the Broward County School Board to ensure the enactment of the contents of the resolution. Broward Sierra Group has been meeting with multiple school board members, including Commissioner Maura Bulman and Debbie Hixon, to discuss next steps and proactive implementation of the goals mentioned in the resolution
