The BSG Outings Committee has been busy at work planning out some engaging and exciting events for all of us over this year! A concerted search has now brought our total Outings Leaders up to seven for the BSG, but we are always looking for more. JUNE 2026: BEACH SNORKEL IN DEERFIELD BEACH

 

 

Outing: Beach Snorkel in Deerfield Beach

Embark on an immersive underwater journey as we explore the captivating depths of Turtle Reef, an impressive artificial reef just north of the Deerfield Beach Pier. This dive adventure unveils a diverse underwater landscape with depths ranging from 5-20 feet and approximately within 300 yards out from shore.

Discover a thriving ecosystem teeming with marine life as you navigate through the crystal-clear waters. Encounters with graceful sea turtles, vibrant tropical fish, octopuses, lobsters, nurse sharks, and other fascinating creatures are common in these reefs. Marvel at the hues and patterns of these underwater inhabitants that call Turtle Reef their home. Keep in mind that marine life sightings may vary, but on a good day, you can expect to witness an array of tropical fish, octopuses, lobsters, and the friendly Green Turtles that inhabit the reefs and utilize the beach for nesting during the summer. Remember to observe these magnificent creatures from a respectful distance, ensuring their safety and well-being.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the underwater landscape, exploring intricate coral formations, natural ledges, and seagrass. Encounter artificial boulders strategically placed to enhance the diversity of the reef and provide unique habitats for marine creatures. Capture unforgettable moments as you marvel at the remarkable biodiversity of this underwater world.

Stats: A 300-yard swim, and then we glide along the reef. Depth ranges from 5-20 feet.

Strong, independent swimming skills REQUIRED. Must bring snorkel fins and snorkel mask.

 

JUNE 2026: ACTIVE/FORMER MILITARY/FAMILY & SUPPORTERS - WEST LAKE PADDLE

 

 

Outing: Active/Former Military/ Family & Supporters - West Lake Paddle
Where: 1200 Sheridan St, Hollywood, FL 33019
When: Saturday, June 28, 2026, 9:30 AM (Eastern)

Join Broward Sierra Group for a relaxed morning paddle through the mangroves and waterways of West Lake Park on Sunday, June 28. We’ll meet at 9:30 AM to launch kayaks and explore one of South Florida’s hidden natural gems while connecting with fellow veterans, servicemembers, and outdoor enthusiasts. 

This outing is beginner-friendly and a great opportunity to enjoy wildlife, calm waters, and good company close to home. Bring your own boat; please have legal safety equipment at hand. Participants should bring water, sun protection, and clothes that can get wet. 

Kayaks and safety equipment are available for rent at the park, should you need. Single ($25) & double ($30) kayaks available Please rent for 2 hours.

Level: Moderate (Beginner is OK)

Recommended Items: Remember - You are on the water! Dress to get wet! Water shoes or some type of water sandal may help.
