As of 2022, the Miami City commission has removed members of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust and made themselves the members .
They also closed the Virginia Key Outdoor Center.
Here is the status of Virginia Key as of 2/23
1) Virginia Key Outdoor Center is still closed and Parks Dept. has not staffed or reopened the center as city alluded. Until a new operator is identified/proposals from bidders are evaluated it will remain closed for foreseeable future.

2) Resolution to restore Virginia Key Beach Park Trust in process.
3) City being sued by Dade Heritage Trust over construction of a recreational boat ramp next to the Marine Stadium. Said ramp will require sig. asphalt to park cars and their trailers.
4) Former landfill being rehabilitated and commitment made by city to retain legacy trees on site. No word how site will be used. Sports fields?
5) City has to float new bonds to finance Marine Stadium restoration and flex park.Price has almost tripled.
6) Basin perimeter trail being restored. Invasive removal being objected to because of their shade benefit.
