Florida Representative Chad Johnson, recently elected to Chuck Clemons' former seat, wasted no time in introducing a bill that would have overturned the GRU referendum—a referendum that passed overwhelmingly.

But we fought back Hard, we fought back FAST, and we fought back Together.

The Sierra Club responded immediately, mobilizing our members, launching action alerts via email, text, and radio—all within 24 hours. We had just two days before the Local Legislative Delegation meeting to sound the alarm, and you answered the call.

We flooded phone lines and inboxes. In the face of this overwhelming response, Chad Johnson backed down and withdrew his bill.

We won. YOU won. TOGETHER, we are POWERFUL.

But this fight isn’t over. With DeSantis in Florida and Trump in the White House, we’ll need to show up again and again to protect our environment. Chad Johnson only listened because we spoke with a loud, clear, unified voice—and we must be ready to do it again.
