“Do not obey in advance.
Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.”
-Timothy Snyder, On Tyranny
Every day, we see new headlines that show President Trump and Elon Musk’s cruel (and illegal) attempts to dismantle our government and democracy as we know it, while our local legislature pushes bill after bill to roll back basic human rights–from attacks on trans healthcare and reproductive rights to banning books and targeting immigrant families. Meanwhile, corporations and organizations are preemptively rolling back their commitments to equity and diversity out of fear for what is to come from the Administration.
During the ongoing turmoil we are facing as a community, we want to unequivocally reaffirm our commitment to centering equity and justice in everything we do, and standing in solidarity with those most impacted by environmental and social injustice. As our equity vision statement says, “We aim to be an organization that is a force for fundamental progressive change.”
Our Chapter is firmly committed to using our resources to uplift those working to defend our democracy and fight back against fascist policies that strip people of their human rights and dignity while also polluting our climate and destroying the outdoor places where we live, work, and play together.
Sincerely,
Lisa Young, Chapter Director & our staff team

Additionally, if you would like to further your support of our mission to build an inclusive climate and ecological justice movement on a foundation of racial, economic, and gender equity that centers the voices of those most impacted, please donate, become a member, or volunteer with us.
