Gatherer
- Opportunity: Engage with local supporters and members in your area and build local grassroots power by hosting a local meetup at a coffee shop, brewery, library, or other community space. This is perfect if you live in a part of Idaho where our Chapter doesn’t host as many in-person events (i.e. Eastern Idaho, Central Idaho, etc.), and you want to be a part of expanding our on-the-ground presence there.

- Opportunity: Help us update our MeetUp page & local community calendars with events we are hosting!

- Skills needed: Basic computer skills
- Training needed: Short remote or in-person training required, then you can do it remotely and on your own time!

Youth Outreach Lead
- Opportunity: Work with another lead volunteer this summer to make a plan for our Chapter to engage with high school and college student activists in the 2026-27 school year. Make community connections with professors, teachers, and leaders at local schools and colleges, sign our Chapter up for local career and involvement fairs on college campuses, and more.
- In-person or remote: Remote/Either
- Skills needed: Basic computer skills, knowledge of or experience in local schools is a plus!
- Training needed: Training with a staff member and meeting with other lead volunteer
- Time commitment: Varies depending on interest level and availability. 2-6 hours/month

Text Outreach
- Opportunity: Help us send texts to our subscribing members and supporters for events and action opportunities! This opportunity involves spending ~10-20 min sending text messages out through the app Hustle and responding to people the following few days as they reply, giving them information about the event/action and answering questions.
- In-person or remote: Remote
- Skills needed: Comfortability sending texts, using a phone & new apps
- Training needed: Brief 1-hour training & practice with Sierra Club staff
- Time commitment: 1-2 hours/month

Outings Leader
- Opportunity: Help lead outdoor events (anything from hikes and camping trips to outdoor painting classes and caving excursions—whatever you love to do!) to get folks outside and engaged with the nature and community all around us.
- In-person or remote: Remote
- Skills needed: Love working with people, skills appropriate to the activity you’re leading (ex. Hiking, camping, etc.)
- Training needed: Sierra Club Outings Leader Training (approx 3 hours online), basic first aid/CPR training
- Time commitment: Varies depending on your capacity. Most leaders lead 1-2 Outings a year, but you're welcome to lead more if it fits with your schedule.

Southern Idaho
Adopt-a-Habitat Lead Volunteer
- Opportunity: Do research into the City of Boise’s Adopt-a-Habitat program and propose an area that Idaho Sierra Club could adopt. Commit to hosting at least 4 cleanups throughout the year, and working with Sierra Club staff to create an event page.
- In-person or remote: Mix of both
- Qualifications: We are ideally looking for an existing Sierra Club volunteer or Outings Leader who is looking to deepen their involvement with our Chapter and take on some additional leadership roles.
- Training needed: Meeting with a staff member to talk through expectations
- Time commitment: Some upfront research, and then a commitment to hosting at least 4 seasonally timed, outdoor workdays

Energy Justice Team
- About the team: The Energy Justice Team is a local grassroots organizing team in the Idaho Power utility area that aims to advance solutions to make local clean energy options & ownership more accessible to low-income and Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Idaho, and to fight back against dirty forms of energy (coal, gas, nuclear) that disproportionately will impact these frontline communities.
- Team focuses: We aim to have volunteer committee members dedicated to each of our primary clean energy campaigns. At the moment, those might include: getting Boise's (and Idaho's!) first community solar project, fighting back against Idaho Power's development of 2 new gas plants and utter abandonment of their clean energy goals, and/or working to hold data centers and big tech accountable for their impact on our region’s environment and communities.
- Team structure: We will have once-a-month meetings, with opportunities in-between meetings to engage in public-facing events, table at community events to gather signatures/actions, canvass or doorknock, attend public hearings, attend meetings with City/state officials, etc.!

Ongoing: data entry & follow-up
- Opportunity: After each Sierra Club community event (approx. 2-4/month), come into our office to input sign-ups into our Sierra Club systems and send follow-up emails to all new sign-ups. This is incredibly helpful for getting new folks engaged in our work promptly!
- Location: Idaho Sierra Club office (downtown Boise)
- Skills needed: Basic computer skills.
- Training needed: 30-minute training with Sierra Club staff, then guided practice
- Time commitment: Approx. 2-3 hours/month
