Be a part of our HOI Sierra Club RiverWatch team. Come and participate in a macroinvertebrate survey on an easily accessible section of Kickapoo Creek at Leslie Rutherford Park. Bring footwear that you can get wet. We will be collecting and counting critters that live in the water and whose presence is an indicator of habitat quality. This survey is being conducted by a trained RiverWatch water monitor using the protocols of the Illinois RiverWatch. The specimens collected wil be taken taken to a lab for later identification. The data collected on this and other streams in the area are entered into a national database that compiles information from citizen scientists from across North America.
Please register to participate. Participation is limited to 6 people.
Illinois RiverWatch and the Illinois Sierra Club offer training sessions on water monitoring several times a year in different locations around the state. HOI Sierra Club members and others from the area participated in a one-day workshop on April 27th at held at Bradley University. For more information on these water testing workshops, fill out our volunteer survey on our website and indicate your interest in water monitoring.
