HOI Political Action Team Volunteers Needed - New Year Meeting Sunday, Jan. 5th
By Joyce Blumenshine
Local politics really matter! Your village, town, city, township, or other local governmental entities like township road commissioner are up for election this spring. Do you know who is running? Do you know what their views will mean to local environmental issues? Will your township road commissioner let road-side prairie patches survive unsprayed or mowed? A lot of our environmental concerns are impacted by local officials. This is the year to get involved on the local level and help support candidates who care about clean air and water and our environment.
Peoria residents have multiple candidates running for city mayor and most city council seats. Heart of Illinois Group needs your help for the many-step process required by Sierra Club for candidate evaluations, recommendations and endorsements. Plan to attend our political action team first meeting for the year at the North Branch Peoria Public Library, 3001 W. Grand Parkway, Peoria, IL 61615 on Sunday, Jan. 5th, 2:00 p.m. in the North Study Room IV. Or phone Joyce at 309-678-1011 for more information.
The Peoria League of Women Voters, along with Peoria NAACP, WCBU Radio and WTVP PBS are sponsoring a Peoria Mayoral candidate forum on Thursday, January, 23rd, at 8 p.m. Tune in by radio or TV to learn about the three candidates, including incumbent Mayor Rita Ali.
The primary consolidated election date is Tuesday, Feb. 25th, with early voting for the primary beginning January 16th. The consolidated election is Tuesday, April 1st.
