Thanks to 46th District Illinois Senator Dave Koehler for being a co-sponsor for Senate Bill 1541, "The   Disposable Food Container Act." This legislation is a reasonable approach for making progress to phase out use of food packaging composed in whole or in part of polystyrene foam. Most styrofoam food containers do not have any way for convenient recycling and may not even be suitable for recycling after use. You can read the full bill here.

At a recent state Sierra Club meeting, this legislation was determined to be one of the top five priority bills for your Illinois Sierra Club for the current legislative session in Springfield.
