Meetings

Meetings are held at 7:00pm on the second Monday of every month except for June, July, and August. November 2025 and March, April and May 2026 programs will be in-person at the Frankfort Public Library. December 2025- February 2026 programs will be via Zoom.  If you don't get a Sierra Club email with a registration link, just email Portia Gallegos and let her know you're coming. All meetings are open to the public, so feel free to bring a friend! All meetings are free and open both to Sierra Club members and to the public.

The Frankfort Library is located on the south side of Lincoln Highway (Rte.30), about three miles south of I-80, between LaGrange Road (Rt. 45) and Harlem Avenue (Rt. 43). The address is 21119 Pfeiffer Road.

November 10"Recycling - Facts and Fiction. " How many of the items you put in your recycling bin end up in a landfill? What is recyclable, and what should go in the trash? Bring your questions to the Frankfort Library. Marta Keane, Will County Recycling Specialist, will present about recycling facts and fiction. Marta is a past president of the Illinois Recycling Foundation and a nationally recognized recycling expert, and she'll also address reusing and reducing our carbon footprint.
December 8" Bats of the Midwest - Amazing Facts about our Local Bats." Join our Zoom meeting to learn more about different bat species in our area, how to tell bats apart from birds, and local bat conservation work. Will County Forest Preserve District bat monitor and naturalist Amy Godbey will lead a lively presentation about these fascinating mammals.
January 12"Members' Slide Night." Whether you visited Patagonia or recorded butterflies in your backyard, we want to see your 2025 nature slides! Bring your favorite slides and photos and tell us all about them. Please let Lois Lauer, Gregg Ott, or Portia Gallegos know if you'll be sharing photos.
February 9"Movie Night" - We'll be watching an environmentally themed movie and then discussing its message
March 9We return to the Frankfort Public Library for an in-person meeting. TBA.
April 13"YOU Make a Difference!" The Illinois Sierra Club will be trying to pass our toppriority environmental bills during Springfield's spring legislative session, and we'll also be working on the federal level. Sierra Club or partner staff will brief us on the issues, and then we'll email, write postcards, call and participate in a night of environmental activism. Bring all your friends and help make a difference for our environment!
May 11"Eat the Neighborhood" - Professional forager and local Illinois resident Dave Odd will talk to us about edible and medicinal plants in our local areas. Dave can usually find about 50 edible plants and mushrooms in any local neighborhood. Join us to find out more about foraging at home!
