Mountains-to-Sea Hike September 19
This woodland hike will begin at the Tomkins Knob Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 272.5. Hiking south on the Mountains to Sea trail through a mixed hardwood and fully shaded forest trail we will step out at the midpoint (2 miles) for a vast panoramic view of Yadkin Valley and loop back into the forest for the return walk to Tomkins Knob. This is a 4 mile out and back hike with a total elevation gain of 627 feet. A good exercise hike or gentle woodlands saunter, there is very gradual incline on a mostly level tree covered trail with no rock hopping or high steps. This would be considered an easy hike by most but distance plus incline would make it easy moderate. The hike could be shortened to 2 miles if participants arrange to carpool. Contact leader for details.
