Roadless Rule Community Roundtable - May 29 at 6:00
NC Sierra Club and our friends at MountainTrue are hosting a Roadless Rule Community Roundtable at the Watauga County Library in Boone on May 29 at 6:00. The 2001 Roadless Rule has protected 59 million acres of US Forest Service land from road construction and logging for over 25 years. Now the Forest Service is proposing to rescind the rule to make way for road building, logging, and mining in America’s last great places. Today, the Forest Service is holding no public meetings, so local conservation groups are providing a forum for you to make your voice heard. Opportunities for oral and written comments will be provided and some snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Green Drinks at Coyote Kitchen June 2
We will be co-hosting our next Green Drinks with the local chapter of the NC Wildlife Federation, High Country Wild. Green Drinks Boone is a free, informal, non-political social gathering open to anyone interested in environmental and sustainability issues in the High Country. It’s a great way to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people who care about making a difference, and establish new partnerships. We'll be at Coyote Kitchen June 2 from 5:30 until 7:30. High Country Wild will provide some snacks and the Coyote Kitchen beverage and food menus will be available. The global Green Drinks slogan says it all: “Saving the World One Sip at a Time.” Come have a sip with us and help make the High Country a better place for us all.
Boone Fork Hike - June 27
One June 27 we will return to the Blue Ridge Parkway to hike the 5.3-mile Boone Fork Trail. Details can be found our Outings page.
