Say 'No' to nuclear energy for Alameda County

By Melissa Yu

Alameda County's public electricity agency, East Bay Community Energy (EBCE), is considering buying nuclear energy to add to its power mix. Community Choice programs in California were created to give the public the power to choose where their electricity comes from. That means we have the power to stop EBCE from investing in this unsafe, dirty power.

Take action online: Send a message to East Bay Community Energy board members telling them that you strongly oppose nuclear energy in your household’s power mix.

In addition to the very real issue of reactor safety, both nuclear proliferation and the required long-term storage of nuclear waste (which remains lethal for more than 100,000 years) make nuclear power a uniquely dangerous energy technology. Nuclear is no solution to climate change and every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on truly safe, affordable and renewable energy sources.

At the moment there is no nuclear in EBCE’s energy mix. Adding dirty, dangerous power is contrary to the goals we advocate for: local clean energy as the solution to climate change, with equity at the heart of our approach.

Please help us achieve a just, equitable, and clean Community Choice energy program for our community by telling your local electrical agency that you oppose nuclear energy in your household’s power mix. Send a message through our online action center today.
