Santa Cruz Group Committee Agendas and Minutes

The Executive Committee

The ExComm (executive committee) is the body which is responsible for managing the activities of the Santa Cruz Group of the Ventana Chapter.  We develop local policies (subject to those that exist at the National, State, and Chapter level), provide guidelines, manage local staff, develop fundraising plans, and in general ensure that the Group operates for the benefit of the National Club, Chapter, and the local environment.

The Conservation Committee

The Conservation Committee, the only committee required by the National Sierra Club by-laws, meets monthly and makes recommendations on environmental issues of concern to the Executive Committee.  We welcome your participation!

The Political Committee

Our task is to evaluate all local elections whether candidates or issues, and make a determination if we will attempt to make any endorsements.  The Sierra Club endorsement is highly regarded to voters and carries a lot of weight so we take our job seriously.

Outreach and Events Committee

The Events and Outreach Committee organizes regular events for the public, aiming to educate and inform the community about environmental problems and solutions. We also coordinate communication to members and the public about the work of our Group through email newsletters, Facebook, MeetUp, our website, and at tabling events throughout the community. Our events offer opportunities to mingle with our awesome, intelligent, and ecologically-minded members. Our fun presentations include authors, wildlife biologists, nature photographers, environmental films, slide shows of members' trips and discussions. We serve local, organic refreshments at most events. Our outreach efforts help increase the visibility of the Sierra Club as an grassroots environmental leader and increase membership within Santa Cruz County.  If you are interested in helping with event planning and outreach, please consider attending a meeting or volunteering. Email the Committee Chair to learn more.
