About

York River Group rally

The York River Group, centered in the peninsula region of the Hampton Roads area, is part of the Virginia Chapter. We subscribe to the same tenets that drive the Sierra Club at the state and national level, including:

  • Explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth
  • Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources
  • Educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment
  • Use all lawful means to carry out these objectives
  • As a local group, we focus primarily on environmental issues of local interest, including:
    • Educate and Advocate on Local Environmental Issues as they arise
    • Sea Level Rise: Reducing the Threat through Prevention, Adaptation, and Mitigation
    • Local Water Quality in the Chesapeake Bay and its Rivers and Tributaries
    • Coal Plant Emission, Coal Ash, Exports and Fugitive Coal Dust; Impacts of Coal
    • Air Quality: Strengthen EPA proposed Clean Energy and Smog Regulations
    • Oppose Off-Shore Drilling; Support Offshore Wind
    • Oppose Atlantic Coast Pipeline
