Meet the Olympic Peninsula's Environmental Champions

Join Us in a Conversation on July 21, 7PM via Zoom, RSVP Required

Guest Speakers: Connie Gallant, President, and Patricia Jones, Executive Director, Olympic Forest Coalition (OFCO), and Tim McNulty, Vice President, Olympic Park Advocates

Olympic Park Advocates is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit citizens conservation organization working to protect the beauty, integrity and biological diversity of Olympic National Park and the Olympic ecosystem.  OPA was founded in 1948 to defend the Park against attacks on its spectacular old-growth rain forest valleys. Seven decades later, it continues to work doggedly for increased protection for the Olympics.

The Olympic Forest Coalition (OFCO) promotes the protection, conservation and restoration of natural forest ecosystems and their processes on the Olympic Peninsula. This mission includes monitoring and caring for the rivers, streams and nearshore habitats of the Peninsula to ensure healthy populations of salmon and other wildlife, including threatened and declining species such as the Marbled Murrelet.  OFCO has been a major proponent of the Wild Olympics Campaign to increase protected wilderness on the Peninsula.

Parks Are for People Victory!

On April 1st, 2022, Thurston County Superior Court Judge, James Dixon, ruled to reverse the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission's decision to permit military warfare training in 28 coastal Washington State Parks. He then issued an official order and 30-day appeal period.  The 30-day appeal period ended June 13th with NO APPEAL filed by the Navy!  That means there will be no permits issued to allow covert military training in WA State Parks. We did it!

The lawsuit was filed by Whidbey Environmental Action Network (WEAN), a small, frugal, and effective non-profit governed by passionate environmental activists.  Find out how you can support their efforts by going to their website.
