NJ Sierra Club Applauds NJBPU, Gov. Murphy on Opening of 4th Offshore Wind Solicitation

Trenton, NJ - Today the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) announced their decision to begin a fourth solicitation for offshore wind development. The fourth solicitation seeks to award between approximately 1.2 to 4 gigawatts of offshore wind generation capacity. This announcement positions New Jersey one step closer towards achieving Governor Murphy’s goal of 11 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2040 and achieving one hundred percent clean energy by 2035.

Anjuli Ramos-Busot, NJ Sierra Club Director, released the following statement:

“The New Jersey Sierra Club is pleased to see the Board of Public Utilities open up the fourth round of solicitations for offshore wind development in New Jersey and continue our push forward toward a just transition to clean energy. Each new round of solicitations brings us one step further away from dirty fossil-fuel energy sources that worsen climate change and pollute our air. Offshore wind is the future, and we thank the Board and Governor Murphy for their commitment to kick starting this new industry to power our state with clean energy without sacrificing the well-being of our communities.”
