Update on Harris County's Sustainability Efforts & Climate Action Plan

On June 8, Lisa Lin, the Director of Sustainability for Harris County, will provide an update on the various sustainability initiatives underway in Harris County, including the Climate Action Plan (CAP) adopted by the County this past January 2023. The CAP aims to reduce County carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2030 and create a Climate Justice Plan with attention to “marginalized” communities. 

The Climate Action Plan focuses on the following Goals:

Goal 1: Reduce total energy consumption and maximize savings.

Goal 2: Increase use of renewable and resilient energy sources for County buildings and operations. 

Goal 3: Shift County fleet to zero or low-emissions vehicles.

Goal 4: Reduce emissions from employee commuting. 

Goal 5: Sustainable procurement and waste management.

Goal 6: Improving reporting and management of county waste stream.

With over 15 years of sustainability experience in the public, private, non-profit, and higher education sectors, Lisa Lin is the first Director of Sustainability for Harris County. Her previous roles and responsibilities include leading the implementation of sustainable transportation initiatives at Rice University, coordinating San Antonio’s first Climate Action and Adaptation Plan during her time as Climate Program Manager for the City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability, and serving as the Sustainability Manager in the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability for the City of Houston. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Sustainable Urban Development from the University of Oxford.
