December Program Topic:

The Gateway Bug: The Monarch and Insects that Sustain Prairie Ecosystems

On December 14, our speaker will be entomologist Erin Mills, currently the Education Manager at the Houston Botanic Garden and formerly Director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Musuem of Natural Science. Erin's talk will focus on the monarch butterfly as 'gateway bug', an insect that has acted as a window to the prairie ecosystem, and the many insect and plant relationships that sustain native prairies. Erin will highlight the essential roles that these insects play.

Erin has also been a guest on Houston Matters, the Houston Public Media radio show, answering the public's questions about area insects.
