January Program Topic:

Greening Neighborhoods for Health, Climate Resilience, Place-making, and Biodiversity: The Greener Gulfton Story

On January 11, our speaker will be Jaime Gonzalez, Community & Equitable Conservation Programs Director for The Nature Conservancy in Texas.

Program Description: We face an unprecedented challenge to our collective health, wildlife, and resilience. Climate change, chronic environmental justice issues, inequitable investment, and other factors are making Houston neighborhoods less safe, healthy, and wonderous. The strategic and community-engaged installation of nature-based solutions can help solve these issues. Join us as we discuss the Greener Gulfton initiative: a plan for greening Houston's most diverse community to combat the urban heat island effect, reduce nature inequity, and bolster biodiversity. From science, to planning, to funding, to action, we'll provide a roadmap of what's happening in Gulfton, the community, nonprofit, and governmental leaders that are fueling actions, and how this model can be used in other local communities.
