Welcome to the Iowa City Group of the Sierra Club Iowa Chapter

We are a community of neighbors working together to protect the land, water, wildlife, and climate that make eastern Iowa home. Our group serves Johnson, Washington, Iowa, Cedar, and Keokuk counties, advocating for clean water, healthy ecosystems, and a more just and sustainable future.

From habitat restoration and public education to local advocacy and outdoor outings, we believe meaningful change happens when people come together locally. Whether you’re new to environmental work or have been involved for years, there’s a place for you here.

Get Involved!

Thank you for being part of the Sierra Club. By joining, you’ve chosen to stand up for clean water, healthy ecosystems, and a livable future. One of the most impactful ways to make a difference is by getting involved with your local Iowa City Group, serving Johnson, Washington, Iowa, Cedar, and Keokuk counties.

Our group is powered by volunteers, and there are many ways to participate, no matter your experience level or availability. Getting involved is a great way to meet like-minded neighbors, learn more about local environmental issues, and put your skills to meaningful use.

You can help by joining a committee:

• Conservation – Leads local environmental advocacy and conservation efforts
• Fundraising & Calendar Sales – Coordinates fundraising activities and annual calendar sales
• Membership – Welcomes and engages members, supports recruitment and retention
• Programs/Outings – Organizes hikes, outings, and outdoor activities
• Political – Promotes the election of pro-environment candidates and raise awareness about environmental issues among the public and decision-makers.  
• Publicity/Webmaster – Promotes events and actions through media and community outreach. Maintains and updates the group website

Whether you’re able to help occasionally or want to take on a more active role, your involvement matters. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected movement for environmental protection in eastern Iowa.
