Sierra Club’s Resist Campaign

Mobile Bay Group of Alabama Chapter Sierra Club is planning to participate in Sierra Club’s Resist Campaign, a program that seeks to defend our bedrock environmental laws. National Sierra Club’s Resist team is helping to coordinate this year’s Peoples Climate Movement: Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice national day of action on September 8th. Some of our members have participated in the Peoples Climate Movement in the past. Something new about this year’s PCM (Peoples Climate Movement) is that it will be less focused on one mass mobilization, and instead place a greater emphasis on local actions around the country and world. This year there will be more focus on building up a distributed network of events! The day of action is being referred to as “Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice”, a national day of action hosted by the Peoples Climate Movement. So, while there will be a mass mobilization in San Francisco, CA, all of us who are outside that region are encouraged to host our own event, rather than travel to one main march.

Mobile Bay Sierra Club is co-hosting the event with MEJAC, Mobile Environmental Justice Action Coalition. It will be held on Bienville Square, 150 Dauphin St. in Downtown Mobile, on Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. All environmental organizations in our community are encouraged to participate. We will host other indoor action events during the week leading up to Saturday. https://actionnetwork.org/event_campaigns/rise-for-climate?source=218FRSEN01&referrer=group-sierra-club-4&source=218FRSEN01&zipcode=36604&country=US

September 8th is four days before the Global Climate Action Summit (http://globalclimateactionsummit.org/ ) and two months before the 2018 midterm elections, the Peoples Climate Movement will be calling for a transition to a new 100% clean and renewable energy future that creates millions of family sustaining jobs, and ensures that economic equity and justice are core to action on climate in every community. We want to carry the spirit of the People’s Climate Movement into the election season and beyond.
