The majority of Americans expect the government to ensure that food, water, and air are not contaminated with chemicals.  They want their families, communities, and products to be safe.  Survey after survey shows that people expect the government to protect them and not to cave to special interests.  

Unfortunately, this is not the case.  Proposals to weaken chemical safety laws are pending in the Congress right now.  The only thing that can stop this is public opposition. 

The Toxic Substances Control Act was supposed to ensure that chemicals are safe, starting in the 1970s.  In 2016, it was amended to require EPA approval before chemicals were imported or manufactured.

Now Republican leadership in the US Congress proposes to weaken the law with loopholes and lower standards. 

We at the Toxics Team are working with others to oppose this and to lay the groundwork to strengthen chemicals laws in the future.  We hope you will join us.

Take Action
Members of Congress need to hear directly from their constituents that they want safe food, water, and air and a clean environment for their children and for the preservation of all living creatures. These goals are broadly supported by a large majority of Americans.  Read more below about TSCA and what the threats are.
