Trump Erodes Air Quality Standards for Tiny Particles that Cause Death and Disease
The Biden administration updated air quality standards in 2024 to protect Americans and reduce deaths and disease. The negative health problems caused by tiny particles in the air had been demonstrated in hundreds of studies. This was a National Ambient Air Quality Standard under the Clean Air Act.
In 2025 Trump decided to abandon this standard and go back to allowing more emissions from power plants and other combustion sources, which will also contribute to greater climate change.
