Meet our first round of environmental champions in the 2027 Chicago municipal elections!

Sierra Club seeks to elect environmental champions who will work with the environmental movement to tackle the climate crisis, fight for environmental justice and make every community more walkable, bikeable and transit-forward

Sierra Club’s Chicago Group and Illinois Chapter PAC follow a rigorous endorsement process that includes members from across the city and state to evaluate a candidate’s voting record, policy positions, financial contributions, and their ability to win and be effective public servants. Sierra Club Chicago is committed to endorsing candidates that reflect the diverse communities and identities across the city, and working to elevate diverse environmental champions to elected office.

Our first round of endorsements includes eight previously endorsed incumbents who have been our biggest champions on City Council in our work to address the climate crisis and build a more equitable city by fighting for access to clean energy, air, and water for all Chicagoans.

We will announce two additional rounds of endorsements for this municipal election cycle in Chicago in the coming months. Our second round of endorsements will include a mayoral endorsement decision and additional City Council endorsements to be announced by early February. Our third and final round of endorsements in Chicago’s municipal race will be announced in early March during the run-off.
