Area Groundwater Concerns and Proximity to Illinois River Remain for the Marquis Energy LLC Class VI High Pressure Carbon Dioxide Injection Well
By Joyce Blumenshine
The U.S. EPA has made clear its intent to issue their permit for a new deep injection well on Marquis Energy LLC property and all that is left in the process is the agency consideration of public input.

Please add in your additional thoughts as an Illinois resident and taxpayer and include concerns you have for the Illinois River and for underground water resources for generations ahead! Research by members of the Coalition to Stop CO2 Pipelines raises concerns that the underground injection could impact private property values but this is all too new to really know. We want the U.S. EPA to delay the Marquis permit approval until additional studies are done on the property value impacts and entire area groundwater risks.
The full impacts of the CO2 injection wells are not known. That is why we need the EPA to extend the time for monitoring the wells to 50 years. Currently the EPA indicates monitoring can end 12 years after the injection well is closed and that is much too early for deterioration of the injection well casings or other problems that could develop.
