SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES Rep. Jared Golden

Nation’s Largest Grassroots Environmental Group Praises Work to Protect Maine’s Environment

Portland: The Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Rep. Jared Golden  (US District 2) in the 2020 election.

"We are gratified to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Rep. Golden for reelection," said Claudia King, Political Team Chair. "We are confident that Jared will continue work to protect

Maine  families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Mainers.”

Given the current administration’s continued threats to our clean air and water and public lands, reelecting  Jared Golden is vital.  Since his election in 2018, Rep. Golden has worked to defend our environment and the citizens of Maine. We applaud his supporting full funding of the EPA and supporting the Land and Water Conservation Fund both of which are keystone elements of a healthy future for Maine. Affordable health care, strong unions and a fair electoral system are also part of the just society Sierra Club envisions. We are grateful to Rep. Golden for his work in these areas.

“We are thankful for Rep. Golden’s assistance in making sure that the controversial CMP NECEC Transmission Corridor had an Army Corps of Engineers hearing,” said constituent and Sierra Club Executive Member Dot Kelly. “ We must use all the tools we have to figure out if this transmission line is good for Maine and Mainers.”

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Golden’s campaign.

"Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his advocacy for our land and people,” said King. “We look forward to a victory for Rep. Golden on election night and to his continued fight for the environment in the US House."
