Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1893, the Sierra Club is the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization. The Sierra Club has the grassroots power to win with 3.5 million members and supporters, 64 chapters, and more than 400 local groups.
Our successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. More recently, we've made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.
In 2022, the Sierra Club Missouri Chapter celebrated 50 years of protecting Missouri’s beautiful and unique landscape. Our chapter is one of the largest grassroots environmental organizations in the state of Missouri, and our members and supporters are made up of more than 28,000 of your friends and neighbors. We have a robust outings program and have active committees working on political action, democracy, conservation, and more. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet.
Sierra Club Mission
To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth;
To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources;
To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment;
And to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives.
2030 Strategic Vision
The 2030 Strategic Framework provides a vision for the world Sierra Club wants to conserve, protect, and create. This vision is firmly rooted in our Core Values of anti-racism, balance, collaboration, justice, and transformation. See our 2030 Strategic Vision or read about our Core Values.
