Endorsements: April 5, 2022 Municipal Elections (Past)

Osage Group Endorsements for the April 5 Election

The Osage Group Executive Committee and the Osage Group Political Committee have made the following endorsements.   These committees used candidate responses to a questionnaire, the candidate forum on Climate Change and the Environment, public record of service and commitment to environmental protections and other publicly available information.    Please vote on April 5.   Please support these candidates with your time and your resources to help them get elected.

Proposition 1 Use Tax -  Columbia and Boone County - Support - A use tax would ensure that purchases from online vendors located outside of the state are subject to the same local tax rates as those purchases made from Columbia and Boone County vendors. It would also help the City and Boone County maintain their revenue while continuing to provide the services residents and businesses expect.  Additionally the funds would be available to support climate action at Columbia City Council's or the Boone County Commission's discretion.  Passing this measure would also result in additional funds flowing as part of the Columbia Parks and Rec Sales tax that was previously approved.  These funds could potentially be used for more land acquisition to protect green space in the Columbia area.

Mayor - City of Columbia - Support Barbara Buffaloe  -  has a long history of working for environmental protections, climate action, smart development and sustainability. First on the Columbia Energy and Environment Commission and then for 11 years at the Sustainability Manager for the City of Columbia. Volunteer or donate at https://buffaloeformayor.com/

Columbia City Council Ward 3 - Support Karl Skala  - as an incumbent, Karl Skala has a long track record of supporting Sierra Club positions on issues of the environment.   Volunteer or donate at https://skalaforcouncil.org/

Columbia City Council Ward 4 - Support Nick Foster -  has a history of concern for equity and made climate action on of the priorities of his campaign   Volunteer or donate at https://fosterforfourth.com/

Columbia Public Schools Board of Education  - Support Blake Willoughby - As an incumbent Blake has demonstrated his support for place-based learning and the new Boone County Nature School. He supports science-based education on addressing climate change, improving the energy efficiency of school buildings and reducing emissions from student transportation.

Columbia Public Schools Board of Education  - Support Suzette Waters - She supports science-centered place-based education, energy efficient buildings and finding ways to lower emissions for student transportation.
